|
|
In my mind, Webservices is an enabler of (but not required for)
Software as a Service.
I see Software as a Service used generally to refer to "entire"
applications that used be installed on a server but is now available
over the Internet (e.g., via ASP and hosted by the provider). The
user is charged only during his use of the application.
Webservices are reusable services enabled by Internet protocols and
tend to be "more granular."
For example,an application such a word processing program could be
used as Software as a Service. A spell-check for cardiology terms may
be a web service which may be called "real-time" by the word
processing program (assuming the architecture has that capability.)
Is this understanding/view essentially correct? Thank you in advance
for your comment.
Sincerely,
Don |
